A weed wacker, also known as a weed eater or string trimmer, is a tool most people know by sight but may not know its uses. A string trimmer is a must-have tool to help you keep your yard tidy. This tool helps cut back grass, weeds, and brush in often hard-to-reach places. We love it to cut back grass on the edge of the lawn that the mower doesn’t get and to cut back grass and hard to pull weeds around flower beds and borders.
Weed wackers come in battery, gas, and electric models. You also have the choice of a straight or curved shaft. We prefer gas-powered trimmers with a straight shaft for the reach, power, freedom of movement, and longer run times. But if gas and oil are not for you, an electric model is a good alternative. However, electric models are limited to the area they can cover because of the cord. For larger spaces, an extension cord would be required.
Battery-powered weed wackers are another alternative to gas and electric-powered trimmers. They provide the same freedom of movement as gas trimmers but may not run as long. Run times with battery-powered models will vary based on the battery’s capacity. It should also be noted that electric and battery-powered trimmers usually have less power than gas-powered trimmers.
In addition to how a trimmer is powered, you can select whether your weed wacker has a straight or curved shaft. Straight shafts make hard-to-reach places more accessible, are generally more durable, and cover more ground. Curved shaft models provide better visibility to see what you are cutting, are lighter weight, and are easier to maneuver around obstacles and tight spaces.
But regardless of the trimmer you choose, we highly recommend this tool. You will find that at some point, you will need it. Whether it’s to clear brush or tighten up borders and beds, you won’t be disappointed with how the weed wacker helps give you the landscaped yard you desire.
