Summer is officially here, and it is hot! 🔥 We know that everyone won’t experience 90-plus degrees Fahrenheit with humidity.

But summer can still be hot and taxing on grass and plants. Summer is when the sun is at its highest point in the sky. So, your yard will receive the most direct sunlight throughout the season
In hotter areas, the amount of yard work you can complete may be limited because it’s more important to be safe. Avoiding going outside during the hottest parts of the day can prevent overheating and dehydration.
In cooler moderate summer climates, you can complete more throughout the day. But, in high heat regions, the morning or evening is the best time to complete tasks.
There should only be yard maintenance during the summer if proper spring clean-up was completed. But, there are a few things you should focus on to ensure your plants and grass survive the heat. Here are the key areas:
- Water plants daily
- Water grass at least three times per week, at least one-inch deep.
- Keep the lawn mowed slightly higher than usual to avoid excessive browning or burnout.
- Deadhead blooms from spring on the appropriate plants to encourage more summer blooms.
- Continue planting, but watering is critical in very hot areas.
