FALL IS HERE

3 THINGS YOU SHOULD DO IN YOUR YARD

Now that it’s fall and temperatures in most regions have cooled down, it’s time to focus on our fall to-do list.  Below are three tasks you should complete if you haven’t already.

1.  Aerating – If you have cool-season grass, fall is a good time for aerating your lawn.  Aerating loosens compacted soil and makes it easier for needed water, oxygen, and nutrients to reach the roots.  Warm-season grasses, however, should be aerated in late spring to early summer.

2.  Seeding/Over-seeding – After aerating, seeding or over-seeding is ideal when using cool-season grass.  Cool-season lawns should be seeded or over-seeded during fall because it gives seeds the best opportunity for growth.

3.  Fall Clean-up – Fall is when you should start cleaning up your yard from the summer.  Most likely, your trees have overgrown, and some annual flowers may be dying back.  Take time before you aerate and seed your lawn to cut back trees and shrubs and prune dead flowers.  This will prevent damage to any new grass seedlings that germinate.  Once your grass sprouts and you cut your lawn at least once, you should clean up garden beds that may have caught a few grass seeds while spreading.

Happy Fall! 🍁
