HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT GRASS SEED FOR YOUR LAWN

Now that we’ve discussed the different types of grasses in an earlier post, how do you decide which one is right for you?  The first two things to consider are climate and light.  You must understand the weather conditions in your area and the type of light the grass will be exposed to.  Do you have warm or cold weather, or does your lawn get more sun or shade?  Knowing these factors will help you quickly choose between warm or cool-season grass.

Next, you will need to decide which type of seasonal grass to purchase.  Factors to consider depend on the look and texture of the grass you want, the amount of maintenance acceptable to you, and the level of traffic the grass will be exposed to.  Having a clear idea of how you will use and maintain your lawn will make it easier to pick a seed. Once you have a solid understanding of these considerations, you are ready to purchase grass seeds.

At this point, you probably think your decisions are complete. But not yet. Now you must choose between the various brands offering the type of grass seed you want. Is it really a big deal, or can you simply pick up any brand of grass seed? Isn’t all grass seed created equal?  The answer is an unequivocal no! Grass seeds vary from the type of grass to the brand, so you must choose your grass seed carefully.

Every manufacturer creates and processes seeds differently, even varying the ingredients.  So, when shopping for grass seeds, recognizing the good and bad components is necessary.  The best way to do this is to be familiar with grass seed labels and knowledgeable about the listed ingredients.  You also want to understand whether the items are essential components or just marketing ploys.  Having a proper awareness can help you avoid the risk of purchasing a low-quality seed that is incapable of producing results.  To learn more, subscribe to our pro-content to understand how to read grass seed labels.
