Indoor or house plants are a perfect addition to any home. But many people are hesitant, even unwilling, to consider the idea of owning an indoor plant. Often the misconception is that only people with a “green thumb” or special skills and knowledge can care for plants. While this may be true for some plants, the reality is there are varieties of plants that require no special skills or a green thumb. Some plants are low maintenance. Yet, many people still prefer to use artificial plants as an alternative.

However, it should be noted that having live plants in your home offer benefits that artificial plants cannot. Some of the benefits include adding color, visual appeal, and improving the appearance of your space. But, there are several other health benefits that many people are not aware of.

First, indoor plants improve air quality. Live plants help purify the air by recycling carbon dioxide into oxygen. This natural process allows us to breathe better. House plants also increase humidity to prevent excess dryness. This happens when plants release moisture from their leaves. Furthermore, indoor plants assist with lowering toxic chemical levels, like carbon monoxide and formaldehyde, commonly found indoors.

Second, indoor plants can have mental benefits. Research shows that live plants improve your mood and mental health while also helping with healing. Studies also conclude that real plants in your home or office space improve focus, increase productivity, reduce stress and anxiety, and make you feel happier.

But despite these added benefits, we know there are still people who would prefer to decorate with artificial plants. If this is your preference, check out our post next Sunday. We will discuss how to incorporate artificial plants into your decor that look real and complement your space.
