Hyacinth

Spring is marked by this beautiful tubular-shaped perennial known for its highly fragrant scent. Hyacinths are one of the first flowers to bloom in spring, along with daffodils and tulips. These delicate-looking flowers originated in the Middle East and were later introduced in Europe.
Hyacinths are a reliable flower blossoming year after year in early to mid-spring. They bloom with single or double flower clusters in intensely vibrant, bright colors. Original hyacinths only bloomed in blue or violet. But today, there are over 60 varieties available in colors like pink, white, apricot, and more.
Hyacinths last longer than most other spring bulbs, with a life of two weeks or more. Occasionally though, the bulbs can lose their vitality after a few years. This has begun to occur over the years with the introduction of so many hybrids. As a result, some gardeners treat hyacinth bulbs as an annual and replace them yearly. Others wait to refresh after a few years to ensure continuous vigorous blooms.
